I have been wearing the same black string bikini for four years. It’s perfect and, tragically, from a brand that has since shut down. It’s on its last legs, so I’ve been browsing!
Which has reminded me how much I don’t believe in owning a lot of swimwear.
It is quite possibly the most miserable category to shop for, and once you find something that works, the goal is to wear it often. A few thoughtfully chosen suits that each serve a different purpose are all you need.
THE SPECIAL SUIT
This suit is genius. The twisted detailing feels glamorous, but not in an obvious way. Like a white tee with sleeves rolled—a small styling detail that makes it interesting. So understated and cool.
THE WORKHORSE SUIT
One top. Two bottoms to suit your mood.
Specific criteria:
Fixed shoulder straps. A proper strap feels more polished than a halter tie.
Fixed-side bottoms. No ties. This lets you hike the suit slightly higher on the hips, which creates a longer line.
***I scoured the internet for this style, and you would be surprised how difficult it is to find a simple string bikini without ties. What I like about this Australian brand is their approach: “because simple done well is hard to find.” The product really delivers here. Simple, no frills. Really good basics across many cuts. They have a bit of a tricky returns policy - either full store credit or refund with restock fee. Read the fine print!

THE SPORTY ONE-PIECE
This summer I decided I wanted to start swimming laps, so in my new hobby fervor, I ordered a Speedo. (I’m a serious swimmer now)
Only to realize I am still a fashion girl. I wanted something functional, but design-forward. This suit is the best of both worlds. Perfect for sport and leisure.

An effortless wardrobe isn't about dressing differently for every occasion. It's about looking like yourself wherever you are. I don't really want a beach persona. I want to wear the same outfit all day, then jump into the ocean. That’s vacation heaven.
